Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a result based distribution sector scheme, has been implemented by the Ministry of Power, government of india with the objective of ensuring quality power supply. The objective of the scheme is to reduce the overall technical and commercial losses of the distribution companies and to improve the per unit cost and revenue of electricity. The gap has to be closed.

In the scheme, there is a provision to give 15 percent amount by the central government as grant for prepaid meter and system metering work and 60 percent amount for upgradation and strengthening of power infrastructure to power distribution companies.

The scheme is to be completed by the year 2025-26. The scheme includes proposed works for reduction of prepaid smart metering and system metering distribution losses and system strengthening and modernization works. The state government has approved the work scheme worth about Rs 24,170 crore. About 2.64 lakh smart meters have been installed and orders worth about Rs 7794 crore have been issued for creating infrastructure to reduce distribution losses. Out of this, work worth about Rs 875 crore has been done.

Under Atmanirbhar Madhya Pradesh-2023, construction work of ultra high pressure substations and related lines has been included through tariff based competitive tenders for expansion of transmission system to supply future electricity demand. Tariff based competitive bidding Through (TBCB), 1 no. 400 KV, 7 nos. 220 KV in the state. And 27 nos. 132 KV. Substations and associated transmission lines will be constructed. Till now the work of 10 substations and associated transmission lines has been completed.
