Actually, in this picture he is pointing towards a hill. The matter is related to Hindu religion. While sharing this picture on Twitter, prime minister Narendra Modi wrote, 'Just reached srinagar a short while ago, where I got a chance to see the glorious Shankaracharya Hills'.

Perhaps through this picture, prime minister Modi is trying to give a political message to the entire country. To put it plainly, PM Modi from srinagar has further sharpened the edge of BJP's Hindutva politics. This step of prime minister Modi is also being seen as an attempt to woo Kashmiri Pandits before the elections. Because Shankaracharya, after whom this hill is named, had a direct connection with the Kashmiri Pandits here. Even though the number of Kashmiri Pandits in the valley is less, the Pandits here have been involved in the election issues of the country for a long time.

Moreover Shankaracharya Hill, located 5 km from srinagar, is about 1100 feet high above the city level. Many claims have been made about this hill in history. The first claim is regarding Shankaracharya only. According to beliefs, when Adi Guru Shankaracharya came to kashmir, he worshiped lord shiva on Gopadri mountain. It was here that he experienced the direct evidence of the nature of power and its greatness. Pleased with his worship, Kashmiri Pandits named this mountain after him. However, the history of this mountain is even before Shankaracharya.
