Congress filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of maharashtra, accusing maharashtra deputy chief minister devendra fadnavis and bjp candidate from Solapur lok sabha seat ram Satpute of violating the Model Code of Conduct. congress has also attached an alleged video conversation between fadnavis and Satpute with the complaint. It has been claimed that the deputy chief minister has agreed to the request of the bjp candidate from Solapur to pave the way for the withdrawal of cases registered under Section 353 of the indian Penal Code against people of a particular community.
This section deals with assault or the use of criminal force to prevent a public servant from discharging his duty. fadnavis and Satpute have not yet responded to messages sent to their mobile phones for comment. Atul Londhe, the chief spokesperson of the maharashtra unit of congress, has sent a complaint letter to the CEO, to which the link to the video clip has been attached.
"I draw your attention to the serious violation of the model code of conduct by the bharatiya janata party (BJP) and its leaders, especially deputy chief minister devendra fadnavis and bjp candidate from Solapur ram Satpute, during the ongoing lok sabha elections in maharashtra," the letter said. According to the letter, “Through video evidence, it has come to my notice that Satpute spoke to fadnavis for assistance in withdrawing the cases under section 353 of the IPC. Surprisingly, fadnavis agreed to this which indicates an abuse of power and position. Such an act is a clear violation of the code of conduct.'' Former Union home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde's daughter and congress MLA Praniti Shinde is also in the fray for the Solapur lok sabha seat. This seat is currently represented by the BJP.
