Another Suicide by Online Rummy; When will the tamil Nadu government wake up? Anbumani Kattam

While a restaurant owner committed suicide after taking a loan of up to Rs 10 lakh through online rummy in Tiruvallur, BAMA leader Anbumani Ramadoss has raised questions against the tamil Nadu government. In a statement released by BAMA president Anbumani Ramadoss, "It is shocking that Ramu, a restaurant owner from Tiruthani Periyar Nagar, Tiruvallur district, who lost lakhs of money in online gambling, is unable to repay the loan of Rs. 10 lakhs taken from various parties, and has committed suicide by jumping into a well in Tanigai Polur next to Arakkonam. My deepest condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family and friends of Ramu.Ramu, the young man who committed suicide, was only 38 years old. He became addicted to online rummy when he was struggling and progressing in life. He has borrowed more than Rs 10 lakh from various parties like private banks, friends and relatives to play online rummy. Although ramu has tried several times to free himself from online rummy, he has again and again become addicted to it and played on credit. How Addictive Is Online Rummy? To what extent does it enslave humans? Rama is a cruel example of this.

Ramu is the sixth victim of online gambling after the madras high court ruled on november 10 last year that the Online Gambling Prohibition Act does not apply to games of skill like rummy and poker. It is reprehensible that the tamil Nadu government has not taken any action to prevent the continued loss of innocent lives to online rummy. With online gambling taking lives one after the other, the only solution now is to appeal to the supreme court against the madras high court judgment and seek an injunction. However, even after 6 months of the madras high court verdict, the tamil Nadu government's appeal has not been taken up for hearing till date. The supreme court is going on summer vacation from May 20. Online rummy cannot be banned till July unless an interim stay is obtained from the madras high court judgment by then. Therefore, the tamil Nadu government should take steps to pressurize the supreme court before the summer vacation to bring the case up for speedy hearing and seek a stay on the madras high court judgment in favor of online rummy. Through it, I urge to save the people who are addicted to online rummy in tamil Nadu.
