How many voters used NOTA in lok sabha elections?
If you do not like any of the candidates contesting the elections, then voters can express their vote by using NOTA (None of the Above). After the order of the supreme court in 2013, the voters of the country got this right. On a petition of 2004, the supreme court had ordered on 27 september 2013 to provide the option of NOTA. The supreme court had said in its order that the right to vote also includes the right not to vote i.e. the right to refuse. NOTA's vote share in the 2019 lok sabha elections was 1.06%.
There are lok sabha elections in himachal pradesh in the seventh and last phase. Voting for all four seats in the state is to be held on june 1. Information about voting boycott and use of NOTA is also coming out from different parts of the state. In such a situation, in the meantime we will know what NOTA is and how many voters of himachal pradesh used NOTA in the 2019 lok sabha elections.
NOTA is used the most in Kangra
In the 2019 lok sabha elections, 33 thousand eight voters in himachal pradesh used NOTA. In this, maximum number of 11 thousand 327 voters had pressed NOTA button in Kangra. 8 thousand 357 voters in shimla parliamentary constituency and 8 thousand 26 voters in hamirpur parliamentary constituency had used NOTA. If we talk about the 2021 by-election, NOTA was used here which was more than the victory margin of Congress's Pratibha Singh. In the year 2021, when by-elections were held in Mandi parliamentary constituency after the death of mp Ramswaroop Sharma, NOTA got more votes than the victory margin of Congress's Pratibha Singh. In this by-election of the year 2021, Pratibha Singh got 3 lakh 69 thousand 565 votes, while BJP's Brigadier Khushal Singh (Retd) got 3 lakh 62 thousand 75 votes. In this way, the victory margin of Pratibha Singh was 7 thousand 490, while 12 thousand 661 voters used NOTA on this seat. The use of NOTA more than the margin of victory proved to be a spoilsport for the bjp candidate.
