"Don't collect tolls on bad roads" - warns Nitin Gadkari!

Road Transport and Highways minister nitin gadkari has said that tolls should be collected only on quality roads and if toll is collected on sub-standard roads, people will face bad consequences. An explanation of this can be found in this post.

Union minister nitin gadkari has said that highway agencies should not collect any toll from motorists if the roads are not in good condition.

Nitin Gadkari gave this important information about toll collection when he spoke at the Global Workshop about the implementation of a satellite-based toll collection system for nearly 5,000 km this financial year.

"If you don't provide quality service then you shouldn't collect tolls, we are only interested in starting a toll collection system to collect tolls from people," Road Transport and Highways minister nitin gadkari said. “You should collect tolls from motorists only in places that provide quality roads. nitin gadkari also said that if you collect tolls in an area with potholed roads, rain-swept, and damaged roads, you may face negative reactions from the people.

GNSS-based electronic toll collection system (Electronic Toll Collection - ETC) is going to be implemented in NHAI projects (Global Navigation Satellite System) run by the government. It will work with the existing FASTag ecosystem. Initially, both RFID-based ETC and GNSS-based ETC will be used in a hybrid model.

NHAI has said that the system will be implemented for commercial vehicles first and then for private vehicles considering its expansion and privacy. The Highways Department has also recommended analysis of driver behavior and background data-based analysis to detect fraud.

“Once GNSS is implemented, the mode of payment will change from prepaid to postpaid. This will help banks and financial institutions to provide credit faster on the basis of travel plans,” suggested NHAI.
