"NEET exam goes against state rights," said Vijay.
Tamil Nadu Vetri Kazhagam president and actor Vijay spoke out against the NEET exam at the second phase of the scholarship awarding ceremony for the students.
After taking a photo with the students, Vijay addressed the audience, stating that he initially had no intentions of speaking but felt the need to address the issue of NEET. He emphasized that the exam poses significant challenges for students in tamil Nadu, particularly those from economically disadvantaged, backward, and rural areas.
Vijay highlighted three key issues related to the NEET exam. Firstly, he pointed out that NEET is in conflict with the autonomy of states, as it was included in the Union List after 1975, despite being in the former state list. He stressed the importance of tailored education for each state and the need to respect state rights in the education system.
Moreover, Vijay criticized the imposition of a single national syllabus and exam, arguing that education should accommodate diverse perspectives and be conducted in regional languages. He emphasized the difficulties faced by rural students, especially those aspiring to pursue medical studies, in adapting to the NEET exam's syllabus and language requirements.
Vijay cited reported irregularities and loss of public trust in the NEET exam, advocating for its exemption in tamil Nadu. He welcomed the resolution passed by the tamil Nadu Legislative assembly seeking exemption from NEET and urged the Union government to address the concerns promptly.
In conclusion, he proposed a permanent solution, suggesting that education should be brought back into the state list. As an interim measure, he called for a special public list to include education and health, and urged the government of india to consider amending the Constitution to address this issue.r the State Governments have over it is entirely under the control of the Union Government. Therefore, it is my humble request that state governments should be given full independence in the matter of education. If the union government wants to conduct the NEET exam for medical colleges like AIIMS, or JIPMAR under their control, let them conduct it.
I also know that if this happens... even if it happens, they won't let it happen. However, I will take this opportunity to express my opinion. Have fun reading... this world is huge. There are many opportunities. If something fails you, it means that god has something bigger for you. Look for it and find it. Be confident and success is assured.” said.
