In the past, the Union government rejected the telugu Desam Party's (TDP) demand for Special Category Status for andhra pradesh, citing that the designation was reserved for hill and northeastern states. Instead, the Union government offered funds equivalent to what would be allocated under Special Category Status, an offer which Chandrababu Naidu, the tdp leader, declined. In response, Naidu withdrew TDP’s ministers from the Union cabinet and filed a 'no confidence' motion against the Modi government, a move mirrored by the ysr Congress, TDP’s rival, who also filed a 'no confidence' motion on similar grounds.

Naidu's latest trip to New delhi is timely, as the Union government has summoned the Chief Secretaries of andhra pradesh and telangana to the capital on July 24 to address unresolved bifurcation issues. Recently, Naidu also met with Telangana's chief minister A. revanth reddy regarding these matters.

Furthermore, andhra pradesh Deputy chief minister pawan kumar is planning to meet with prime minister Modi soon to oppose the privatisation of the Visakhapatnam steel plant and to advocate for a railway zone in Visakhapatnam.

In my opinion, Naidu’s recent actions suggest a pragmatic shift in strategy, acknowledging the political and economic realities while continuing to seek substantial benefits for Andhra Pradesh. The focus on financial packages over Special Category Status may reflect an understanding of current political dynamics and a desire to work more collaboratively with the central government. Additionally, the coordination between andhra pradesh and telangana on bifurcation issues indicates a potential for a more unified approach to regional development challenges. The proactive stance of pawan kumar on key industrial issues highlights the ongoing complexity of state-central relations and the diverse priorities within the state leadership.
