She was born on 4th May 1960 in Dhanwada village of mahbubnagar district. father Chittem narasimha reddy was killed in a Naxalite firing while he was a member of the Maktal Legislature. In the subsequent by-elections, his brother Maktal entered as a political leader. After that, Gadwala married a man named Bharatasimha reddy who was known as a politician. Bharata simha Reddy's father satya Reddy had already won mla from Gadwala and gained a good name. Thus she inherited the political legacy of her uncle's husband and became a famous politician in Gadwal.
 DK Aruna contested for the first time as ZPTC in Kolhapur Constituency Pantam Mandal and got a great victory. In 1996, she contested from tdp from Mahbub nagar Lok Sabha seat. But she was defeated by the congress candidate. After that, she joined the congress party and in 1999 she lost once again to Gattu Bhimidi who contested the Gadwal Legislative assembly seat on behalf of the Congress. But in 2004 the much-awaited congress ticket was not given. With this, she took a ticket from the Samajwadi party and entered the assembly, winning with an impressive majority. So she won again from Gadwala and entered the assembly. At the same time, she got the post of minister during Rajasekhar Reddy's regime. In the 2024 elections, she contested as the mp of Mahbub nagar and won by 4,500 votes against the congress candidate Vamshichand Reddy.
