Mettur Dam
The Water Resources Department has warned that the surplus water released from the dam could increase to  1.25 lakh cusecs at any time.

The mettur dam has been warned that 1.25 lakh cusecs of water can be released at any time and people living along the banks have been advised to move to safer places.

The water level in mettur dam has been rising due to heavy rains in the Western Ghats and Cauvery catchment areas.  As of  12 noon today,  the water level in mettur dam has reached 119  feet. The inflow into the dam is  62,870 cusecs. The mettur dam has reached its full capacity of  120 feet.

The surplus water released from the dam will likely increase to 1.25  lakh cusecs at any time. The Water Resources Department has also warned that the amount of water released will be increased gradually.

Therefore, people living on the banks of Cauvery and low-lying areas have been advised to move to safer places.  The Water Resources Department has alerted 15  departments, including six district collectors, to take all necessary precautions.

Meanwhile, leader of the Opposition edappadi k palaniswami has slammed the government for not completing the Sarabanga project to carry water from mettur dam to salem district lakes.
