During the rainy season, when the mettur dam is full,  the surplus water released from the Dam is not wasted in the sea. The Sarabhanga Lift Irrigation Project was started during the previous AIADMK regime and the project was designed in such a way that water would be drawn from mettur dam through pumping stations and piped to fill  100  lakes in salem district.

Palaniswami said in his statement that the first phase of the project was started in march 2020 the first phase of the  Thippampatti main pumping station was completed and the first phase of the Sarabhanga project was started in february 2021.

Tamil Nadu Ex-Chief minister  Edappadi K Palaniswami on tuesday said the DMK government had not completed the remaining works of the Sarabhanga project even after  38 months of coming to power and demanded that the Sarabhanga lift project be completed on a war footing to prevent wastage of Cauvery water and provide irrigation facilities to the parched areas.

EPS requested a court investigation into the claims that YouTuber "Savukku" shankar was subjected to abuse while incarcerated at coimbatore Central. Gopalakrishnan, Shankar's attorney, had claimed on May 6 that his client had been subjected to torture while incarcerated following his detention from Theni on suspicion of using derogatory language against tamil Nadu police officials on his YouTube channel. The attorney said that shankar was found to be in good physical health and to be free of injuries during a pre-prison medical examination.
