Many efforts have been made to free people from superstitions. He participated in the anti-Hindu movement at the age of 14 and was arrested several times. In 1949, karunanidhi became one of the founding members of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) founded by his ardent disciple CN Annadurai, who fell out with Periyar. In 1957, he contested the state assembly elections for the first time. At this time, karunanidhi entered the assembly for the first time by contesting from the Kulitalai constituency.

 He is still 33 years old. First served as minister of Public Works in Anna Adurai's cabinet and served as chief minister of tamil Nadu after Annadurai's death in 1969.
