If govt control on temples justified then why not on Waqf?
The name of Waqf Board is in the headlines these days. After the railways and the army, the Waqf Board has the most land in the country. To change this, a bill has been introduced in the lok sabha on Thursday, which has caused a lot of uproar in the House. The opposition has opposed it, while the government has its own different arguments. Today, on Thursday, July 8, the government introduced the Waqf Amendment Act and there was a lot of uproar in the lok sabha on it. Currently, the bill has been sent to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC).
Need to understand Waqf Board
Before knowing about Waqf Board and Waqf Act, it is necessary to know what Waqf is. There is no mention of the name Waqf in the Quran. Although the name of Waqf has appeared in Islamic history. If a Muslim person donates his movable or immovable property in the name of Allah, then it is called Waqf.
After independence and partition of the country, Nehru government made Wakf Board Act in 1955 in which it was said that the government will make a board to manage the property of Wakf, which will be run by Muslims. After that Indira Gandhi, p v narasimha rao and rajiv gandhi made amendments in it in their time and strengthened it further.
Manmohan Singh's government made further amendments in 2012 and said that Wakf can do any work so that the property of Wakf can be strengthened. After this amendment, Wakf did unconstitutional work in such a good way that today it is the institution having the highest property in the country. indian Railways and indian Defense are in the first and second place. In a country where about 80 percent of the population is Hindus, Hindus do not have that much property, rather Muslims, who are 13 percent in the country, have the most property.
