How important is the post of Chairman in Rajya Sabha?

The Vice President of india is the Rajya Sabha's natural chairman according to the Constitution. By a simple majority, the members of the lok sabha and rajya sabha jointly elect the Vice President. Article 64 of the Constitution contains comprehensive information regarding this position. The Chairman is responsible for presiding over rajya sabha proceedings.

All the privileges enjoyed by the Speaker of the lok sabha during house sessions are also granted to the Chairman. This implies that, in accordance with the Rajya Sabha's anti-defection rule, the Chairman may revoke any member's membership. Not only that, but if a quorum is not present, he has the authority to adjourn the meeting. They make ensuring that the house operates in accordance with the Constitution and house regulations.

In addition, the Chairman is in charge of upholding order in the House. Any member who exhibits indiscipline may be warned by him and removed from the House. He is able to take the required actions to keep the house orderly. The Vice President of india and Chairman of the rajya sabha hold the same position, making this the second-highest position in the indian Constitution. The Vice President may step down in accordance with Article 67-(a) by delivering his resignation letter to the President of india prior to the end of his tenure.
