Should there be a caste census in the country?

maharashtra Deputy cm and ncp chief ajit pawar has given his opinion on the issue of caste census in the country. During an interview with ANI, when he was asked whether there should be a caste census in the country? On this question, ajit pawar said that I myself feel that it should happen once. ajit pawar has previously spoken in favor of caste census. His party ncp had emphasized its full support for the demand for caste-based census in the manifesto during the lok sabha elections.

Supporting this ideology, maharashtra Deputy cm Pawar had said, "Our party believes in the right to live as a human being irrespective of caste, creed and religion. Our party believes in equality, fraternity and unity. It is our duty to bring the deprived and backward sections of the society into the mainstream. We will demand caste-based census. ''In june this year, amid the ongoing protests in maharashtra over maratha and OBC quota, ncp minister Chhagan Bhujbal had also advocated for a caste census across India. Bhujbal had said, "If this census takes place, it will be very beneficial for the OBCs of the country. They will get more money from the Center."

Bhujbal had further said that by doing this, we will be able to understand not only the population but also the status of OBCs. He said that if this happens, OBCs will also get money, which is currently available only for sc or ST. ncp (SP) chief sharad pawar has also demanded a caste census. The issue of caste census dominated the lok sabha elections. The opposition, especially rahul gandhi, has been advocating it. According to an IANS report, rahul gandhi had said at that time that it will not be just a caste census, it will be an economic survey. Meaning, who has how much money in India, every institution will be surveyed. This will help in knowing what is the status of people of which class.

On July 31 last month, the MPs of the congress and its allies created a ruckus and raised slogans in the lok sabha to conduct the caste census.
