Haryana assembly election Date 2024: Voting on october 1,

The haryana assembly elections for 2024 are set to take place in a single phase on october 1, with results announced on october 4, according to the election commission of India. Alongside haryana, elections will also be held in Jammu & Kashmir, with counting for both states scheduled for october 4.

This will be the first assembly elections since the BJP-led national democratic alliance secured a third consecutive term in the Lok Sabha. The current term of the 90-member haryana assembly is set to end on november 3, 2024. The congress party is aiming to regain control from the bjp, which has been in power since 2014. Key issues in haryana include the Agnipath military recruitment scheme, farmers' demands for a legal guarantee of minimum support price (MSP), and sexual assault allegations by wrestlers from the state. The congress, part of the india bloc, is expected to contest the haryana assembly elections independently. Former haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has indicated that there have been no discussions about forming an alliance with the aam aadmi party (AAP) at the state level, suggesting that the congress may not partner with the AAP in Haryana.

While congress and AAP had an alliance for the lok sabha elections in Delhi, they competed separately in Punjab, with congress allocating one seat to AAP in haryana for the general elections. AAP has announced it will contest all 90 seats in haryana but has not yet achieved electoral success in the state. The ruling bjp has appointed Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan as the election in-charge for haryana, with former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb as co-election in-charge. In March, the bjp replaced manohar lal khattar as chief minister with Nayab Singh Saini, and the Jannayak Janata Party’s (JJP) alliance with the bjp ended. The JJP has expressed readiness to support the congress in challenging the bjp government in Haryana.

In the 2024 lok sabha elections, both the bjp and congress won five of the ten seats available in Haryana. Currently, the 90-member haryana assembly has 89 effective seats, with the bjp holding 41, congress 30, JJP 10, INLD and haryana Lokhit party one each, and six Independents.
