Sabarimala Bhasmakulam to be relocated before mandalam season

Bathing in the Basmakulam behind the sabarimala Sannidhanam is considered as an important ritual for Kanni Swamigal.  Devotees who go to sabarimala 18 times and attain the status of Guruswami will also take a coconut sapling to Sabarimala. The coconut sapling will be planted on the banks of Basmakulam. Bhasmakulam, considered by the devotees as the holy tank of Lord ayyappa in sabarimala, was situated in the north-west of the temple in Kumbha Rasi.

In 1987, the Bhasmakulam was closed and a flyover was constructed for devotees to walk on. The vessel pond adjacent to the Basmakulam was also closed.  At that time, the devotees had strongly opposed the closure of the heritage Bhasmakulam.
Subsequently, the present Basmakulam was created behind the sabarimala Sannidhanam.  The waste and polluted water from the buildings located in the high-rise areas adjacent to the Basmakulam created a health hazard in the area. The Basmakulam and the surrounding areas were polluted and unhygienic.

Yesterday, Devaprasannam was seen to select the site for the construction of the new Bhasmakkulam. Vastu Research Centre Chairman K.A team comprising Muraleedharan and their team was in the process of selecting the venue.  Accordingly, a site was selected for the construction of a new tank in Meenam Rasi in the north-eastern part of sabarimala Sannidhanam. The construction of a new Bhasmakkulam near the cauldron field behind the pavement was started yesterday.

Travancore Devaswom Board Chairman V.S.Prashanth inaugurated the construction of the new Bhasmakkulam by laying stones. sabarimala tantri Kandararu Rajeevarar and others participated. It was stated in many deities that the place where the Bhasmakkulam is located now is not correct and since the tank was located in the wrong place, it should be changed. Vastu expert K. Radhakrishnan said that the place where the new pond is located is ideal. Muralitharan said. Bhasmakulam is the third place in Sabarimala. Travancore Devaswom Board (TDB) president V.S.Prashant said that the construction of the new Bhasmakkulam will be completed before the temple is opened for the upcoming Mandala Makaravilakku pujas.  The site was also selected for the construction of the Kanana Ganapathi (Vana Ganapathy) temple and poojas were performed for the same.
