Actor siddique resigns as general secretary of kerala Nadigar Sangam Siddiqui's decision to face sexual harassment

Malayalam actor siddique has resigned from the post of general secretary of the malayalam Film Artistes Association (AMMA).
Siddique, who has acted in more than 350 films mainly in malayalam, confirmed his resignation to Asianet TV, saying, "I have conveyed my resignation letter to AMMA Mohanlal. I have taken this decision considering the allegations levelled against me. It is not in my interest to continue in that position. I don't want to talk about the allegations right now."

The decision to resign came a day after an actress reiterated allegations of sexual assault and rape she first committed through a facebook post in 2019. The incident allegedly took place in a hotel in 2016.The allegations against Siddiqui, who was elected to the post of general secretary through an internal election for three years earlier this year, come against the backdrop of the release of the hema Committee report that highlighted incidents of sexual harassment and harassment against women artistes and technicians in the malayalam film industry.

Siddiqui's reaction
When asked about the report, Siddiqui told reporters on Friday, "We welcome the report and its findings. The government should implement the committee's recommendations as it will lead to improvement in working conditions in the industry. At the same time, he denied the existence of ‘casting couch' in the industry and  said that the evidence in the hema report was responsible for  'some isolated incidents'. She also rejected accusations of an entire male 'power group’ in the industry.
