In response, Hezbollah attacked Israel.  Israel has declared a 48-hour nationwide state of emergency for its citizens from 06:00 am on sunday (today) amid alternating attacks by both sides. Israeli Defence minister Yoav Gallant said: “The state of emergency has been declared in response to warnings from Hezbollah. In israel, measures have been taken to control crowds and close places where people gather."

Meanwhile, the Israeli military sent a warning message to residents of southern lebanon early this morning. "We have information about Hezbollah's activities in southern Lebanon. We are monitoring large amounts of Hezbollah's products near your homes. You're in danger. Therefore, anyone living in the vicinity of areas where Hezbollah operates should leave the area immediately to protect themselves and their families."

Israel closed its main airport for several hours and announced a 48-hour state of emergency, forcing several international airlines to cancel flights. More than 200 rockets were fired in retaliation by Hezbollah, according to Israeli officials, however relatively little damage was reported.
