In the forested Nilgiris, crimes against wildlife are increasing day by day.
Wildlife hunting is going on at all levels, from hunting wild cattle overnight with modern guns and smuggling meat to other states to killing wild boars with country crackers called outukkai.  Though the forest department says it is taking various steps to prevent forest crimes, forest crimes have not decreased.

In this case,  the forest department has received secret information that a hunting gang is roaming in a car in the vampire junction area near Coonoor. The forest department has intensified vehicle checking in the area.  When they searched a passing car, they were shocked to find  three country-made firecrackers  and hunting materials including short wires inside the car.

During interrogation, the two occupants of the car confessed to hunting wildlife.  They raided their houses and seized some items and  booked the duo under the Wildlife Protection Act and arrested them.

According to the Nilgiris Forest Division, Ramakrishnan (38) of  Nansach Estate in Coonoor and  Rajan (40)  of Glendale Estate were hunting wild boars and other wild animals for meat. It was also known to make out-of-home bread.

We raided Ramakrishnan's house in the presence of police and revenue officials.  We have seized crackers,  knives, tarpaulins and a car used for making country crackers. They used to make homemade firecrackers and sell them in military areas. We are investigating the matter."
