Four persons, including two women, were arrested for trying to smuggle ganja  worth  Rs 27  lakh from a lorry in salem to sri lanka via Nagapattinam.

The salem Narcotics Control Bureau police received information that ganja was being smuggled from andhra pradesh to Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur and puducherry via Salem.

A team led by DSP Lakshmanan and Inspector Babu suresh Kumar conducted a vehicle check on the arur-Salem road in Dharmapuri district. The day before yesterday, a lorry coming from Dharmapuri to salem in Achankuttapatti area was intercepted and checked. The truck was stacked with cylinders used for welding. Cannabis was found stashed in cardboard parcels underneath. The lorry driver, identified as Sesukummala (34), a native of Anakkapalli in andhra pradesh, was arrested by the police.

Later, they seized 270 kg of ganja worth Rs 27 lakh from inside the truck. The driver, Sesukummala, was arrested and during interrogation, it was found that he was smuggling ganja from andhra pradesh to Nagapattinam. Following this, the police launched a probe into the persons involved in the abduction. The plan was to smuggle ganja from andhra pradesh to Nagapattinam and then to sri lanka by sea. Revealed. More than 10 people from andhra pradesh, puducherry and Nagapattinam were involved in the smuggling of ganja.

A special team led by Inspector Babu suresh Kumar was formed to nab the gang. The police arrested three more persons in connection with the smuggling of ganja worth  Rs 27  lakh in Nagapattinam yesterday.   The arrested have been identified as Appala Narsa (62), wife of Rajababu of Rolukunda Vattipa near Visakhapatnam in andhra pradesh, Parvathi (66) wife of Rajababu of Rolukunda Chennapoopalapattinam and Sadayan  (52)  of Keeraikadu hill village in Karumanthurai in salem district.

The trio   bought 270 kg of ganja from andhra pradesh, loaded it in a truck and sent it to Nagapattinam through Sesukummala.   They took a train from Visakhapatnam to Trichy and took a bus to Nagapattinam. When the lorry reaches Nagapattinam, they plan to unload 270 kg of ganja and hand it over to the smugglers to Sri Lanka.

But on the way, the truck with 270 ganja in salem was caught by the police and the three were trapped. During interrogation, it was found that Appala Narsa and Parvathy were involved in ganja smuggling and were in touch with ganja growers in the forest in Andhra Pradesh.

Therefore, the special squad police are engaged in continuous search to nab the gang from Andhra, Nagapattinam and Sri Lanka. Sadayan is the lover of Appala Narsa, who was arrested. police investigations revealed that he had come in contact with him at a place where he had gone to andhra pradesh to buy ganja. Following this, the lorry driver Sesukummala, Appala Narsa, parvathi and Sadayan were produced before the salem court and remanded in central and women's sub-jail.
