A madrassa student has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing three Hindu temples in Bangladesh. After his arrest, he said he targeted and damaged temples because of rumors that the floods in bangladesh were caused by water released by India. Rafi Hossain, 18, was caught by locals when he vandalized a third Hindu temple after breaking idols and other objects in two temples and handing them over to the police.

The incident took place at temples in Baguria and Kaligram areas of Rajshahi Bagha Upasila on Friday. According to locals, Rabi Hossen broke the lock of Hindu temples in Baguria Balpara, Goshpara, and Kaligram areas in Baguria Union and damaged idols and other items in temples. The names of the temples targeted are the Durga temple of Kaligram Sarvjan, Panikamara temple, and Baguria Temple.


He was caught red-handed while vandalizing a temple at Pundaripara in Kaligram in Bagh Municipality. After Rafi was handed over to the police, temple committee chairman Arun Sarkar complained to the police.


Upazila Puja celebration committee chairman Sujit Kumar Pandey immediately visited three temples. Speaking about the incident, he said that Rabbi Hossain confessed that he attacked temples after seeing rumors of flooding in the country caused by water released by India.

Pandey said, "I broke the idol in one temple and the things in the other two temples. He confessed in front of those at the police station that he had done this alone, and no one was with him.

 
Baga police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Siddiqui said, “ A case has been registered in the name of Rafi Hossain in connection with the sabotage incident. He was later sent to jail by the court.  Investigations are on to find out if anyone else has any connection with him.
