In a review meeting held in delhi in July, it was reportedly emphasized that funds for tamil Nadu would be allocated only if a memorandum of understanding for the Pradhan Mantri Shree scheme was signed. The Centre has withheld Rs 573 crore from the tamil Nadu school education Department for not accepting the new education policy. This will not only affect the plans for the students but also the next month's salary for the teachers.

The tamil Nadu government, which has been consistently opposing the new education policy of the central government, is formulating the state education policy. The tamil Nadu government, which is yet to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Centre’s “Prime Minister's Shri” scheme, has said it is ready to accept the National education Policy (NEP) in "PM SHRI” schools if it is removed. But the central government refused to accept it.

In a review meeting held in delhi in July, it was reportedly stressed that funds for the Pradhan Mantri Shree scheme would be allocated only after signing a memorandum of understanding.  School education minister Anbil Mahesh had urged Union education minister dharmendra pradhan to release funds for tamil Nadu,  but there was a delay in the allocation of funds under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan. Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan is an integrated school education program that combines Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Secondary education Development, and Teacher Education.

Out of this, the Planning Commission approved Rs 3,586 crore for 2024-2025. Out of this, 60 percent (Rs 2,152 crore) will be the central government's share and the remaining 40 percent (Rs 1,434  crore) will be the state government's share.

While the central government has to release this in four installments,  the central government has not yet released the first installment of Rs  573  crore which should have come in June. The Centre has not yet responded to the reminders and letters sent by the tamil Nadu government to the Centre on the non-allocation of funds.
