rahul gandhi Alleges election Manipulation by bjp During US Visit

Rahul gandhi, leader of the Opposition in the lok sabha, made a controversial statement regarding the 2019 lok sabha elections during his visit to the United States. Speaking at Georgetown university in Washington DC, gandhi stated that he does not harbor personal animosity towards prime minister Narendra Modi. He clarified, “I don’t hate Mr. Modi. He has his own point of view, which I disagree with, but I do not hate him. He sees things differently, and so do I.”

During his three-day visit to the US, gandhi criticized the conduct of the lok sabha elections, alleging that the entire campaign was skewed in favor of PM Modi and the bharatiya janata party (BJP). He accused the election commission of acting in alignment with the BJP's interests, labeling the elections as "controlled" rather than free and fair. According to gandhi, if the elections had been conducted impartially, the bjp would not have secured nearly 246 seats.

Gandhi asserted that the congress party had long warned about the capture of key institutions, including the education system, media, and investigative agencies, by the ruling party and its affiliates. He described a significant shift in public perception when he emphasized the protection of the Constitution, which resonated deeply with many Indians. He pointed to issues such as the caste census and said that these factors contributed to a growing realization of the struggle to protect democratic values.

Gandhi further claimed that the bjp had a substantial financial advantage, including actions like locking congress party bank accounts. He criticized the structured nature of the campaign, suggesting that it was tailored to favor bjp strongholds while disadvantaging areas where they were weaker. He concluded, “I don’t see it as a free election. I view it as a controlled election.”

Prior to this, gandhi had addressed an indian diaspora event in Herndon, Virginia. He is expected to return to delhi after his two-day stay in Washington.
