Trump Declines Another Debate with Kamala Harris 

Former President donald trump announced on thursday that he will not participate in another presidential debate against Kamala harris before the november 5 election. This decision follows recent polls that suggested harris had outperformed trump in their recent debate.

“THERE WILL BE NO THIRD DEBATE!” trump declared on his social media platform, Truth Social. In an interview with the New York Post, the 78-year-old former president said, “We just don’t think that there’s any need for it. We’ve had two debates already—one against Biden on june 27 and one against Comrade Kamala. I did well in both.”

Following Trump's announcement, harris stated at a rally, “I believe we owe it to the voters to have another debate.”

Polling Results

Polling data indicates that harris performed better in the debate. A CNN poll released shortly after the debate revealed that most viewers believed harris outshined Trump. YouGov reported that 54 percent of respondents thought harris won, while 31 percent favored Trump. Additionally, a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted through thursday shows harris leading trump 47 percent to 42 percent in the race for the november 5 election, marking an increase in her lead since the debate.

The two-day Reuters/Ipsos poll showed harris with a five-point advantage among registered voters, up from a four-point lead in an earlier poll from august 21-28. Among those who had heard about the debate, 53 percent believed harris won, compared to 24 percent who thought trump was victorious. Moreover, 52 percent of debate-watchers said trump appeared unsteady, while 21 percent felt the same about Harris. Notably, one in five Republican voters also said trump seemed less sharp.

Debate Dynamics

In a contentious debate held in Philadelphia, harris challenged trump aggressively. According to the poll, 52 percent of voters felt harris displayed greater moral integrity, while 29 percent thought the same of Trump. Among Republican voters, 53 percent said trump won, while 91 percent of Democrats felt harris was the victor. Additionally, 31 percent of Republicans believed no clear winner emerged, and 14 percent thought harris outperformed Trump.

The debate, hosted by ABC News, garnered 67.1 million viewers, surpassing the 51 million who watched trump debate then-candidate Joe Biden in June. Biden's poor performance in that debate led to significant pressure from Democrats, culminating in his decision to withdraw from the re-election race in July.
