Donald trump Declares Safety After Second Assassination Attempt, Suspect in Custody

Donald trump announced his safety following a second assassination attempt on sunday in Florida. In a fundraising message, the former President assured supporters, “Fear not! I am safe and well, and no one was hurt. Thank God!” He also addressed the situation directly, saying, “There were gunshots nearby, but rumors can spiral out of control. I want you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL. Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER.”

In his statement, trump expressed gratitude to his supporters, saying, “I will always love you for supporting me.”

The incident occurred at Trump’s golf club in West Palm beach, where a gunman fired shots near the property. The FBI confirmed that trump was unharmed, and the Secret service reported that agents fired at the suspect. They recovered an AK-47-style rifle with a scope and a GoPro video camera. The suspect, identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, is now in custody.

This attack follows an earlier assassination attempt in Butler just nine weeks ago.

Details from the Secret Service

The Secret service reported that the suspect emerged from the bushes and fled in a black car, which was later tracked down with the help of a witness. Palm beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw confirmed that a suspect is in custody. It remains unclear whether the gunman aimed at trump or if he responded to the Secret Service’s gunfire.

The Secret service faced scrutiny for its response to the earlier attack in Pennsylvania. They stated that their agents immediately engaged the suspect upon spotting the rifle barrel, leading to the suspect’s escape.

Reactions from Officials

US Vice President Kamala harris expressed relief that trump was unharmed, stating, “I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America.”

President Joe Biden commended the Secret service and other law enforcement agencies for their efforts, noting, “I commend the work of the Secret service and their law enforcement partners for their vigilance and their efforts to keep the former President and those around him safe.”

Trump’s Son’s Reaction

Trump’s son took to social media, reporting, “SHOTS FIRED at trump golf Course in West Palm beach, Florida,” linking it to the previous attempt in Pennsylvania. He added that an AK-47 was found and confirmed that trump was safe with a suspect apprehended.

About the Suspect
