Two birds with one stone...big political gamble!!!
Making Atishi the chief minister of Delhi is being considered a big political gamble by Arvind Kejriwal. The first reason is that she is a woman. After the swati Maliwal episode, BJP was continuously attacking Aam Aadmi party and was portraying it as anti-women. swati Maliwal was considered close to Arvind Kejriwal. She was the chairperson of Delhi Women's Commission. But, whatever happened at the Chief Minister's residence and the way allegations and counter-allegations were made after swati Maliwal was beaten up, the party's image suffered a major setback. In such a situation, by making Atishi the chief minister just before the assembly elections next year, kejriwal has tried to give the message that women are at the top of the agenda for him.
Kejriwal government has taken many steps for women even before this, such as making their fare free in delhi Transport Corporation buses. A proposal was also given by the kejriwal government to make the fare free in the metro. In such a situation, political analysts believe that this step of kejriwal has deflated the BJP's allegations of anti-women.
How did her stature grow?
When chief minister arvind kejriwal was arrested in the alleged delhi Excise Policy scam, she led the protests being carried out by aam aadmi party leaders. Atishi is a member of the Aam Aadmi Party's Political Affairs Committee and the party's National Executive. Atishi received her early education from Delhi. She did her further studies in the capital itself. She got a BA degree with first class in history from Delhi's St. Stephen's College. After this, Atishi got a postgraduate degree in Education and History from Oxford University.
The party says that her middle name Marlena was given by her parents. This is a word made up of Marx and Lenin. However, before the lok sabha elections in 2018, she stopped writing her middle name Marlena and she used to write only Atishi in everyday work.
