Which big faces are in fray in first phase of elections?

The first phase of assembly elections is on wednesday in Jammu and Kashmir. Voting is being held on 24 seats in the state. Out of these, 16 seats are from kashmir and 8 seats are from Jammu. The first phase includes Kulgam, Anantnag, Pulwama and Shopian districts of South kashmir, while voting is also being held in the far-flung hilly areas of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar Jammu. The first phase is going to see a tough competition between many well-known personalities.

Which big faces are in the fray in the first phase?

• Hasnain Masoodi of National Conference will face PDP's Zahoor ahmed Mir in Pamper. Who won in 2008 and 2014.

• In Tral assembly, PDP's ahmed Naik will face Surinder Singh of Congress. Since 2008, this seat is with PDP's Mushtaq Ahmed.

• In Pulwama, there will be a tough fight between PDP's Waheed Ur Rehman Para and Mohammad Khalil Band. Waheed Ur Rehman has recently been released from jail. Khalil Band had won the seat for PDP in 2018 and 2014. Now he is contesting from National Conference.

• In Kulgam, CPI(M)'s Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami will face independent candidate Sayyar ahmed Reshi supported by the banned Jamaat-e-Islami.

• In Dooru, congress leader Ghulam ahmed Mir will face PDP's Mohammad Ashraf Malik. This area has long been considered a stronghold of Congress.

• In Bijbehara of Anantnag, BJP's Sofi Yousuf will face PDP's Iltija Mufti and National Conference-Congress alliance candidate Bashir ahmed Veeri. A triangular contest will be seen here.

• In Banihal, Vikar Rasool Wani of congress will face Sajjan shahid of National Conference, as both of them are contesting elections from here.
• Apart from this, Sheikh Mehboob Iqbal of National Conference and Nadeem Sharif of congress party are in the fray in Bhaderwah.
• In Devsar, there will be a contest between Peerzada Feroz ahmed of NC and Aman Ullah Mantu of Congress.
• On Doda seat, Sheikh Riyaz of congress will face Khalid Najeeb Suharwardi of NC.
