AAP and bjp Unite to Pass Resolution for DTC bus Marshals in delhi Assembly
On Thursday, the delhi assembly passed a resolution for the permanent reinstatement of bus marshals for the delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) and cluster buses, addressing a year-long demand from the ruling aam aadmi party (AAP).

The issue dates back to 2023 when delhi Lieutenant governor Vinai Kumar Saxena ordered the termination of all civil defense volunteers serving as bus marshals. The AAP government had introduced the bus Marshal Scheme in 2015 to enhance the safety of women and children on public transport, particularly in light of limited police oversight. For over a year, the AAP and the L-G have been at odds over the reinstatement of these marshals. Although AAP took the matter to the supreme Court, it was directed to approach the high court instead.

During discussions in the assembly, AAP and bjp members exchanged heated remarks but ultimately found common ground. Initially, AAP MLAs accused the BJP-led central government of being anti-poor. In response, the bjp claimed that AAP was making false promises about job creation, with leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta citing similar issues regarding teacher employment in Delhi.

Gupta emphasized the impact of the job losses on disadvantaged families, urging immediate and permanent reinstatement of the marshals. AAP minister Saurabh Bhardwaj echoed this sentiment, announcing that both AAP and bjp MLAs would visit the L-G’s residence on october 3 to secure the necessary signatures for the resolution.

This assembly session marks the first under new delhi Chief minister Atishi, who is expected to seek a vote of confidence on Friday. Following recent events, the assembly's strength has decreased to 66 members, with AAP holding 59 seats after losing three MLAs to various political shifts.

The assembly also witnessed contentious debates between AAP and bjp over pending CAG reports and issues related to illegal tree-cutting in Delhi.
