BJP's power increased in MCD Standing Committee?

bjp candidate Sundar Singh won the vacant seat of MCD's Standing Committee on friday (September 27). With this victory, bjp has a majority in this committee. In such a situation, the chairman of the Standing Committee will be from BJP. Even though aam aadmi party got a majority in the MCD elections, but with this victory, bjp has captured the committee considered to be the most powerful.

According to this, the power to take many big decisions and allow financial transactions will come to the bjp president. BJP's Sundar Singh got the votes of all 115 councilors of the party, while AAP's Nirmala Kumari did not get any vote. aam aadmi party and congress councilors did not participate in the voting.

The Standing Committee is the highest body taking decisions regarding the delhi Municipal Corporation. With this election result, bjp now has 10 members in the committee while the ruling AAP has only eight. This is the first time that the election took place without the participation of AAP and congress councilors. This seat had fallen vacant after bjp councillor Kamaljit Sehrawat was elected as a lok sabha member from West Delhi.

arvind kejriwal took aim

Former delhi cm arvind kejriwal took aim at this election result. He alleged that the bharatiya janata party has unfairly taken over the municipal body and stolen the mandate. Addressing the delhi Assembly, kejriwal said that according to the rules, only the mayor can call a meeting of the MCD house but the Lieutenant governor changed it and directed the additional commissioner of the municipal body to do so. He accused the bjp of resorting to hooliganism and asked whether this is an election? The former chief minister claimed that according to the rule, a notice has to be sent to every councillor 72 hours before the meeting, but this was not followed.
