The Union home Ministry has approved the renaming of Ahmednagar district of maharashtra to Ahilyanagar. State Revenue minister Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil gave this information on Friday. Talking to reporters, Patil said that the decision to change the name of Ahmednagar was taken by the state cabinet in march this year and approval was sought from the Center.
Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil said that in the 18th century, Ahilyabai Holkar, the ruler of indore (Madhya Pradesh), was from this district. Earlier, the chief minister Eknath Shinde government had renamed aurangabad and Osmanabad as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Dharashiv respectively. Let us tell you that the maharashtra government had renamed Ahmednagar city as 'Ahilyanagar' in memory of Indore's queen Ahilyabai Holkar. Apart from this, the names of seven suburban railway stations of mumbai were also changed. Velhe taluka of pune district was named 'Rajgad' after the historic fort which was the first capital of the maratha Empire established by Chhatrapati shivaji Maharaj for 27 years.
Currey Road station was renamed as Lalbagh station
The state cabinet headed by chief minister Eknath Shinde also approved renaming of seven suburban stations on Central Railway and Western Railway with modern identity. Currey Road station was renamed as Lalbagh station, Sandhurst Road station was renamed as Dongri station, Marine Lines was renamed as Mumbadevi station, Charni Road was renamed as Girgaon station. Cotton Green was renamed as Kalachowki station, Dockyard was renamed as Mazgaon station. Similarly, King's Circle was renamed as Tirthankar Parshvanath station. After the approval of the maharashtra Legislature, the proposal for these name-changes was sent to the Union home Ministry and Railways for implementation.
