Questions raised as ‘Why did bjp lag behind in Jammu Kashmir? Why did it not get votes in kashmir region?’ Amidst all these questions, another fact has come to light that bjp could not win the seat reserved for scheduled tribes (ST) in Jammu region. There are seven reserved seats for st here. Perhaps bjp stood second in Jammu kashmir and the voters of Jammu region voted heavily and it won 29 seats. Not only this, it won all the seats reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) in Hindu dominated Jammu region. The seats of Jammu region reserved for st were won by the alliance of congress and National Conference and independents.
Meanwhile seven seats in Jammu are reserved for sc and six for ST. However, bjp could not win even a single seat reserved for ST. These seats are in Rajouri, Poonch and Reasi districts. It is surprising that bjp did not win even a single st seat because these seats were taken after the removal of article 370 in 2019. According to the report of indian Express, the bjp at the Center added the Paharis to the st community. Poonch and Rajouri districts have the highest number of Pahari voters but this decision did not benefit the BJP.
Moreover BJP's Chaudhary Zulfiqar ali was fielded from Budhal and Murtaza Khan from Mendhar. Both were defeated by National Conference candidates. Zulfiqar Gujjar and Murtaza are from the Pahari community. Congress's Pahari leader Iftikhar ahmed defeated BJP's Vibodh Gupta, who is himself a Pahari. Vibodh Gupta had to face defeat in Rajouri. With this, congress opened its account in Jammu region.
