The effect of the electoral defeat of congress in the haryana assembly elections is now visible in Delhi. aam aadmi party, following the strategy of congress, has indicated to contest the elections alone in delhi, while the state congress has also responded to this and made it clear that congress is also capable of contesting the elections alone. If this happens, then the path of congress in delhi can be difficult. This is because the condition of congress in delhi is worse than Haryana. Then, the way congress did not form an alliance with aam aadmi party in haryana, on the same lines, AAP has now indicated not to form an alliance for the delhi assembly elections. AAP MPs Sanjay Singh, Raghav Chadha and national spokesperson priyanka Kakkar have already given statements regarding this.
AAP mp Raghav Chadha argues that there are two categories of elections in the country. In the first category, there are regional parties, they are capable of defeating bjp and have also been defeating them. Like DMK in tamil Nadu, trinamool congress in West bengal or AAP in Delhi. In this category of elections, the help of congress or other parties is not required.
The second category is of those states where there is a direct fight between bjp and congress and congress is not able to defeat bjp somewhere. There is a need to form an alliance there. In such a situation, will congress be able to perform better in delhi assembly elections? If we talk about the last three assembly elections and three lok sabha elections held in delhi, then it can be said that despite the claims of congress leaders, it is difficult to achieve the same.
What do the figures say?
In fact, assembly elections were held in delhi thrice in the last 11 years. In delhi assembly elections 2013, AAP won 28 seats, bjp won 32 seats, JDU and Akali Dal won one seat each and independent candidates won one seat.
In the delhi assembly elections held in the year 2015, congress could not win even one of the 70 assembly seats. aam aadmi party won 67 seats while BJP's three candidates managed to register victory.
In delhi assembly elections 2020, aam aadmi party won 62 seats while BJP's candidates won eight seats. This time too, congress candidates could not even open their account.
