PM Modi-Xi jinping in 10 years, two giants of Asia met!
Prime minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi jinping will hold bilateral talks on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in russia on wednesday (October 23), which will be their first meeting since the east Ladakh border dispute arose in May 2020. On the matter, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Misri said, "I confirm that there will be a bilateral meeting between prime minister Modi and Chinese President Jinping.''
Earlier in november 2022, Modi and jinping met each other at a dinner hosted by the Indonesian President for the G-20 leaders. After that in august last year also, the indian prime minister and the Chinese President had a brief and informal conversation in johannesburg at the BRICS summit.
This formal meeting is taking place between the two countries after five years. This meeting is taking place at a time when a consensus has been reached on the border dispute between india and China, especially on the issue of Galwan Valley. The conflict between the two countries continued since the intrusion of Chinese troops in eastern Ladakh in the year 2020.
Since this incident, several diplomatic and military talks took place between the two countries, but the tension remained. Now that the foreign ministries of both the countries have confirmed the consensus on the Galwan issue, this meeting can bring a new turn in the relationship.
History of Modi-Jinping meetings
Prime minister Modi and President Xi jinping have met 20 times so far, including informal meetings during international conferences. The two leaders met for the first time during the BRICS Summit in brazil in 2014. Since then, there have been several talks between the two leaders on trade, border disputes and other strategic issues. However, in the last four years, the pace of talks had slowed down due to increasing tensions in relations between the two countries.
