According to sources Munusamy, a civil engineer from Vilvanathapuram near Valajapet in tamil Nadu’s Ranipet district, knows this pain well. After the heartbreaking loss of his youngest son, Isaiyamudu, Munusamy found solace in nature, transforming grief into a green mission. Munusamy led a joyful life with his family his wife, Kausalai, a teacher and their two sons, Perundagai and Isaiyamudu. Life took a tragic turn when Isaiyamudu passed away at the tender age of 17. Heartbroken, Munusamy struggled to cope with the overwhelming loss of his beloved son.
Perhaps Munusamy sought a way to heal. Following friends’ advice, he began planting saplings in memory of his son on Chetty Hill (Kanchana Giri Hill) near his hometown. Each sapling became a tribute to his son and nurturing these young plants brought comfort back into Munusamy’s life. What began as an act of remembrance turned into a mission to rejuvenate Chetty Hill. Since 2022, Munusamy has planted around 3,400 saplings on Chetty Hill, making it his daily routine to water and care for them.
Moreover Munusamy’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 2023, he received the tamil Nadu Government’s Green champion Award along with a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. With this encouragement, Munusamy’s vision has grown. He has established a charitable foundation in his son’s name, aiming to plant and nurture five lakh trees across the state. Munusamy’s story is a perfect example of resilience and the healing power of nature. By transforming his loss into a mission for the environment, he continues to honour his son’s memory, bringing hope and life to Chetty Hill.
