Reportedly the market was trading with a decline throughout the day. But due to strong buying by investors in banking stocks in the last hours, Sensex and Nifty closed with a great jump. Midcap and smallcap stocks also saw great shine. At the end of today's trading, the BSE Sensex closed with a jump of 364 points at 80,369 and the National Stock Exchange's Nifty closed with a jump of 128 points at 24,466 points.
Perhaps in today's trade, out of the 3982 stocks traded on BSE, 2214 stocks closed with a rise and 1643 stocks closed with a fall. There has been no change in the price of 125 stocks. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 16 stocks closed with gains and 14 closed with losses. While out of 50 Nifty stocks, 31 stocks closed with gains and 19 closed with losses. Among the gainers, Federal bank closed with gains of 8.49%, sbi 5.13%, icici bank 5.13%, Bajaj Finserv 2.18%, NTPC 2.11%, Bajaj Finance 1.61%, Larsen 1.25%, Axis bank 1.31%. While maruti Suzuki closed with losses of 4.11%, Tata Motors 4.06%, sun Pharma 2.14%, Bharti airtel 1.61%, Infosys 1.25%.
Furthermore the biggest gains in today's trade were in banking stocks. Out of the 12 stocks included in Nifty bank, 11 closed with gains and only one Indusind bank stock declined. Nifty bank closed with a jump of 1061 points or 2.07 percent. Apart from this, shares of metals, real estate, energy, consumer durables and oil and gas sector closed with gains. While shares of auto IT, pharma, healthcare, FMCG sector closed with a fall. Nifty's midcap index closed with a jump of 0.92 percent and Nifty's smallcap index closed with a jump of 0.76 percent.
