As per report a junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) of the Army’s Special Forces laid down his life on Sunday, while three more soldiers were injured in a gunlight with terrorists in a remote forest area in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district, officials said. The army identified the fallen hero as Naib Subedar Rakesh Kumar of 2 Para and saluted his supreme sacrifice. This is the third such gunfight that broke out with terrorists in the past 24 hours. The latest one broke out in the Keshwan forests when the joint search parties of the army and police intercepted hiding terrorists around 11 am. Nearly three or four terrorists are believed to be trapped.
The officials said “This is the same group that killed the 2 innocent villagers earlier this week". The operation in the forests of Kuntwara and Keshwan was underway since thursday evening following the incident in which two civilians working as village Defence Guards (VDGs) were first kidnapped and then killed. The two men had gone to a nearby forest area to graze their cattle but did not return.
Meanwhile chief minister Omar Abdullah expressed concerns over the killing of two civilians by terrorists and asked the security forces to “plug any gaps" in the counter-terror grid. Moreover Abdulla had said “Deeply saddened & concerned by the attack that resulted in the deaths of kuldeep Kumar & Nazeer ahmed Padder of Kuntwara in Kishtwar, members of the local village defence committee. The terrorists killed two innocent men who had taken their livestock to graze. I condemn this attack unequivocally & send my condolences to the families. At the same time I expect the security forces to move quickly to plug any gaps in our counter-terror grid & ensure that attacks like this stop completely".
