air pollution has increased once again in dehradun, the capital of Uttarakhand, due to which the atmosphere here has become a cause of concern for respiratory patients. There was a slight improvement in the air quality for a few days after Diwali, but now with the onset of winter, the situation has started deteriorating again. On Saturday, the average air Quality Index (AQI) of dehradun was recorded at 254, which is at a dangerous level for health.
The level of pollution increases especially during the winter season. Due to the high density of cold air, it is not able to spread rapidly and pollution particles remain trapped in the atmosphere. Due to this, the level of pollution remains high for a long time. The situation becomes even more serious in valley areas like dehradun, because the geographical location here keeps the pollution in the atmosphere for a long time. Due to this, the particles of polluted air float in the air for a long time, increasing the level of AQI.
AQI has deteriorated continuously
Dehradun's AQI has deteriorated continuously in the last one week. On november 9, it reached 254, while a day earlier on november 8, it was 168. On november 7, it was at 147 and on november 6, it was at 165. On november 5, it was 95, which is considered relatively safe for health. When the AQI level is more than 200, it is considered extremely bad for health.
Vehicle smoke is the main cause of pollution
Vehicle smoke is a major cause of air pollution in Dehradun. Due to the ever increasing vehicle and traffic pressure in the city, the level of pollution in the air is continuously increasing. Apart from this, burning garbage in the open is also a major reason for increasing pollution. Due to the fall in temperature in winter, pollution particles remain in the atmosphere for a longer time, which further increases the AQI level.
