What is the impact of Maharashtra elections on Rajya Sabha?

The bharatiya janata party has registered a landslide victory in the maharashtra assembly elections, but its defeat in jharkhand is not dimming the shine of this victory.

The historic victory of the BJP-led Mahayuti alliance in maharashtra will have a big impact on the rajya sabha as well. The rajya sabha is the upper house of the indian Parliament, its members are elected by the elected members of the state assemblies. Therefore, the strength of any party in the assembly directly affects its seats in the Rajya Sabha.

Maharashtra has a total of 19 seats in the Rajya Sabha. Currently, many of these seats are occupied by Congress, ncp (Sharad Chandra Pawar) and shiv sena (Uddhav faction). But now the spectacular victory of the BJP-Shinde faction and ajit pawar faction in the assembly has changed the equation. Now the majority of the Mahayuti can further strengthen the bjp in the Rajya Sabha as well.

In the rajya sabha elections, members are selected by the votes of the MLAs. To win every rajya sabha seat, the candidate needs to get a minimum first-preference vote. If the number of assembly seats is divided by the rajya sabha seats, then a candidate will need the support of about 37 MLAs.
