Reportedly showing losses by the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation management, there is talk of giving stake to the private sector on PPP model to run the power companies of the state. Against which protest has started in the department. Regarding this, the Vidyut Karamchari Joint Organization Committee has held a meeting and announced that it will conduct a large-scale public relations campaign and public panchayat against the decision of privatization. The first public panchayat in this will be held in varanasi on 4 December.

Perhaps after the government expressed its inability to help the power companies financially, efforts are on for privatization. In this, in the first phase, Purvanchal and Dakshinanchal Vidyut Vitran Nigam are to be given to the private sector on PPP model. Regarding this, the engineers in the central executive of Uttar Pradesh State electricity Corporation Council Engineers Association have said not to accept privatization in any form and have resolved to fight a decisive battle against it. 27600 employees work in these two electricity distribution corporations, who are afraid of being laid off. Out of these, 10411 employees are working in agra Discom and 17189 employees are working in varanasi Discom.

Moreover regarding this, the State electricity Consumer Council has filed a contempt petition in the Uttar Pradesh electricity Regulatory Commission against the decision to give power companies on PPP model. Through this petition, the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation management has been accused of taking unconstitutional decisions. The council has also raised the question that why is there a plan to sell Purvanchal and Dakshinchal Corporation to private houses after doing corrective work worth billions of rupees under RDSS and business Plan? This decision will affect one crore consumers of Purvanchal Corporation and about 62 lakh consumers of Dakshinchal.
