As the congress government in Telangana, led by chief minister A. revanth Reddy, organized the “Praja Palana – Praja Vijayotsavalu” program in peddapalli district with the theme ‘Yuva Vikasam’ on Wednesday, a group of unemployed youth staged a bold protest in Ashok nagar, Hyderabad. The protest took the form of a photo exhibition, titled “Hollow Promises,” aimed at exposing what they claim are the government’s unfulfilled assurances to unemployed youth.

The venue, Ashok nagar, holds significance as it was where congress MP rahul gandhi had met unemployed youth during the assembly elections campaign. Through a series of poignant photos, the exhibition highlighted the alleged discrepancies between the congress government’s promises and its actions.

The youth criticized the government’s claims of filling 55,143 vacancies, arguing that these positions had been notified by the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, with the congress government merely issuing appointment letters.

Promises vs. Reality

The protesters pointed out the stark gap between the promises made during the campaign and the government’s delivery. During the assembly elections, the congress party pledged to fill two lakh vacancies within a year, provide an unemployment allowance of ₹4,000 per month, distribute e-scooters to girls aged 18 and above, and establish a youth commission to disburse ₹10 lakh interest-free loans for self-employment.

However, according to the protesters, only 5,213 new job notifications have been issued in the past year, leaving 2,67,316 vacancies across government departments unaddressed.

Betrayal of Trust

“The congress government has betrayed unemployed youth with its fake promises,” said Janardhan Anumulapuri, a Group-I aspirant and leader of the protesting group. He also criticized the removal of reservation in Group-I services recruitment under GO 29, calling it a severe injustice.

Social activist and former congress leader Bakka Judson, who supports the unemployed youth, added weight to the protest by demanding an apology from congress leaders rahul and Priyanka gandhi Vadra.

“Priyanka gandhi assured us of two lakh jobs and an unemployment allowance of ₹4,000 during the elections. But not even a penny has been disbursed so far. Since both rahul and priyanka have failed to deliver on their assurances, they must apologize to the unemployed youth at Ashok nagar X Roads,” Judson demanded.

Political Implications

The protest, juxtaposed against the congress government’s celebrations, underscores growing discontent among unemployed youth. It also raises questions about the government’s ability to deliver on its electoral promises, potentially impacting its credibility and voter trust in future elections
