Reportedly since january till now, 574 road accidents have taken place in the district, in which more than 200 people have lost their lives. The main reason for these accidents is said to be uncontrolled speed and violation of traffic rules. To reduce accidents, the administration has identified 14 black spots. The possibility of road accidents is high at these places. Corrective measures will be implemented soon to fix these places.
Earlier in the month of November, 55 road accidents were recorded in the district, in which 148 people were injured and many people lost their lives. These figures reflect the serious state of road safety in the district. The main cause of accidents is uncontrolled speed and non-compliance of traffic rules. Additionally, poor road structure at black spots is also contributing to accidents. On the instructions of district Officer Ramesh Ranjan, a committee has been formed, which includes officials of the Transport Department, police and other administrative officials. This committee will study the major causes of road accidents and suggest measures to prevent them and special improvement works will be done to smoothen the traffic at black spots. These will include barricading, sign boards, speed limit indicators and other safety measures.
Moreover the administration has appealed to the general public to strictly follow the traffic rules and not drive at high speed unnecessarily. Also, campaigns will be run to make people walking on the road aware. These efforts of the administration are expected to prevent road accidents in the district, but this is possible only when people themselves understand their responsibility and follow the traffic rules.
