According to sources potato prices have increased in odisha in the last two days as West bengal has banned the supply of kitchen essentials in the state. Traders have given this information. Now hundreds of trucks loaded with potatoes are standing near the Odisha-Bengal border as vehicles have not been allowed to cross the interstate border since wednesday night. Many of these trucks have returned to their original place as the potatoes may get spoiled. Traders said that potatoes which were earlier selling at Rs 30 to Rs 33 per kg in odisha markets have now become Rs 40 per kg in retail markets. He said that if the supply is not restored, the price of potatoes may increase further.

Meanwhile all odisha Traders Association secretary sudhakar Panda has appealed to the odisha government to intervene and hold talks with neighbouring state West bengal to allow potato trucks to enter the state. When asked about this, Food Supply and Consumer Welfare minister Krishnachandra Patra said that there has been a problem in the supply of potatoes from West Bengal.

He said, 'We will bring potatoes from punjab or Uttar Pradesh and ensure that consumers do not face any problem.' odisha requires about 4500 tonnes of potatoes per day. The state is largely dependent on West bengal for this. Due to the concerns over the price of potatoes, people in the state are facing a lot of problems and citizens are facing problems in getting potatoes even after paying the increased price.
