About 1.75 lakh farmers from eight districts in maharashtra allegedly submitted wrong data to get more benefits than they deserved under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. After it was found that farmers in Solapur, Pune, Satara, Ahilyanagar, Dhule, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Beed districts had allegedly submitted wrong data, the state agriculture department has sought to disqualify them from the crop insurance scheme. Officials said that Solapur tops the list of these eight districts and discrepancies were found in the data provided by 36,438 farmers there. The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) was launched in 2016 with the aim of providing assistance to farmers by providing affordable comprehensive risk cover for crops.
So many farmers did not cultivate onion
The report of the State Agriculture Department said that during inspection in eight districts, it was found that a total of 83,911 farmers had requested onion crop insurance, but they did not grow onions in their fields, while 60,258 others had mentioned more land than their actual land in their application. According to the report, the total number of farmers in eight districts who gave wrong figures is 1,74,972 and the land involved in this irregularity is 95,765.64 hectares. Let us tell you that under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, if a farmer's crop is damaged due to rain, drought or other natural calamities, then the government compensates for it. This scheme helps farmers to compensate for their loss, so that they can overcome the financial crisis.

Farmers who own land in scheduled areas or do farming on rent are eligible.
