Meanwhile congress is a constituent of the opposition maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). The party contested 101 assembly seats in maharashtra but won only 16 of them. There was a time when the party dominated the state but in this election, the party recorded its worst performance ever. Many top leaders of the party in the state failed to retain victory in their assembly constituencies. However, Patole won by just 208 votes in Sakoli assembly constituency of Bhandara district. shiv sena of uddhav faction, a constituent of Mahavikas Aghadi, won 20 seats. Along with this, sharad pawar faction ncp (SP) won 10 seats. MVA won a total of 46 seats.
On the other hand, the Mahayuti alliance won a spectacular victory in 230 out of 288 seats in the assembly elections. bjp emerged as the largest party in the state. A few days after the results of the assembly elections in the state, bjp leader devendra fadnavis took oath as the chief minister on december 5. Along with this, shiv sena chief Eknath Shinde and ncp chief ajit pawar were made Deputy CMs.
