Wednesday is the fifth day of excavation in Chandausi of Sambhal. The first floor of the stepwell has now become visible in the excavation of the fifth day. About 11 feet deep excavation has been done, in which it is seen that the floor of the first floor of the stepwell is made of red stone. Amidst all this, a 2-member team of Archaeological survey of india (ASI) is conducting a primary inspection of rani Ki Bawdi in Chandausi area of sambhal on Wednesday.
During the inspection, the ASI team has ordered the municipal administration not to use JCB at all in the excavation on the plot on which the excavation is going on. The JCB should not be parked on that entire plot as it can damage the stepwell. During the inspection, the ASI team also measured the stepwell, in which the distance from one corridor of the stepwell to another was found to be about 19 meters.
The stepwell is at least more than 170 years old
After inspecting the walls of the stepwell, the ASI team has estimated that the part of the stepwell that is visible now is modern because the ancient part of the stepwell has been coated with plaster. At some places in the stepwell, the plaster has been found to be peeling off, after inspecting and photographing which, and after looking at the original bricks of the stepwell, the ASI team estimates that the stepwell is at least more than 170 years old. Along with this, the ASI team has found more than 20 small and big niches in the rani Ki Bawdi during its inspection. During the inspection of rani Ki Bawdi, the ASI team has found 10 curved gates on the outer side. Apart from this, the carvings and figures on the pillars also appear to be 150 years old. Apart from this, the ASI team has estimated that the red stone used in the floor of the stepwell is also 200 years old.
