Union Law minister Arjun ram Meghwal has apologized after the controversy over the statement on poet-saint Meerabai. He said, "I have immense respect and faith in Bhakta Shiromani Maa meera, who is seated at the peak of Sadhana. If any of my words have hurt the minds of devotees who have devotion and reverence for Maa meera in any way, then I express regret and apologize." Senior bjp leader Meghwal said that he himself sings Meerabai's bhajans and can never insult her because he takes inspiration from her life.

Which statement of Meghwal caused controversy?

On monday (23 December), during a program at Shri shyam Gaushala in Piprali, Sikar, Meghwal had said, "Meera was born in Merta and was married in Chittorgarh. We all read in history that Meera's husband harassed her. This is not so... Meera's husband lived for one year after marriage.'' He further said, ''After Meera's husband died, her brother-in-law became the ruler. He asked meera to marry him, and from here the fight started. The one who harassed her was her brother-in-law. Some things are written differently in history.''

Opposition cornered

His statement was criticized a lot. Former minister and congress leader Pratap Singh Khachariyawas called this statement insulting. He said, ''Union minister Arjun ram has committed a great sin by speaking wrongly about devotee Shiromani meera, the minister should be ready to face the consequences. minister Arjun has said that he will correct the history but first he should correct his mind.''
