Jyotishpeethadhiswar Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swamishri Avimukteshwaranand has called the fatwa issued by a Muslim Maulana asking Muslims not to celebrate New Year a welcome step. He said that if a Muslim has said this for his Muslim community, then it is a good thing. Shankaracharya appealed to the Sanatani Hindus and said that vikram Samvat is your calendar, which is more scientific than that, so celebrate festivals and New Year according to it.
Jyotishpeethadhiswar Jagadguru Shankaracharya Swamishri Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati in Varanasi, on the question of the fatwa issued by AIMJ National President Maulana Mufti Shahabuddin Razvi Barelvi asking Muslim boys and girls not to celebrate New Year, said that any person, whether he belongs to any organisation, if he has issued a fatwa or direction for his community, then in my opinion, this is a welcome step, because what is happening is that we are being taken away from our roots. When we got independence by chasing away the british in the freedom struggle, then after their departure, we are celebrating the new year according to the english date, it does not make any sense.
Shankaracharya asked- what is the problem in this?
Shankaracharya called it a conspiracy of the Christians and said that we postpone our date, this is irony, if someone is thinking about this irony and is telling his society, Muslims have Hijri year and we have vikram Samvat, this is a conspiracy of the Christians. Here the day starts from sunrise. Here it starts at 12:00 in the night. We stay awake the whole night and say Happy New Year. Here any auspicious day starts with the worship of Lord Ganesha in the morning.
Shankaracharya appealed to the Hindu youth who follow Sanatan dharma and said that I also want to tell our Sanatanis that they should understand these things as soon as possible and celebrate the New Year and festivals according to their vikram Samvat calendar. Your calendar is your date and it is more scientific and better than that if we look at it from a scientific point of view, even if a Muslim has issued a fatwa for his Muslim community, then I say that it is a very good thing, they should also celebrate festivals according to their dates, what is the problem in it.
