Maharashtra's devendra fadnavis cabinet took a big decision on tuesday (7 January). The government has made FASTag mandatory for all vehicles. This decision will come into effect from april 1, 2025. This decision will save fuel and time along with avoiding traffic jams. If the FASTag is not working, the vehicle owner will have to pay double the road tax fee. Similarly, if the toll fee is to be paid by cash, smart card, credit debit card or code or any other means, then double the toll fee will have to be paid. Let us tell you that there are 50 toll booths of MSRDC and 23 toll booths of Public Works Department in the state.
E-Cabinet
The maharashtra government will soon implement the "e-Cabinet" system, which aims to reduce the use of paper in cabinet meetings and use smart tablets in place of traditional documentation. The electronic-driven initiative, presented by Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik after the cabinet meeting on tuesday, aims to make government functioning more transparent and environmentally sustainable. The system will communicate cabinet decisions to citizens through a dedicated portal. How does FASTag work?
FASTag is a sticker that is pasted on the windscreen of the vehicle. This sticker works on Radio Frequency Identification technology (RFID). When passing through the toll booth, the FASTag scanner scans the sticker on the windscreen. After this, the toll tax is automatically deducted from the linked account. Due to the automatic process, there is less chance of jam at the toll booth.
