About 50 students are sitting on hunger strike in azad Maidan, Mumbai, Maharashtra. These students demand that the students who were in the waiting list in the fire department examination held in the year 2023 should get priority. Actually, if the students whose names were in the confirmed list do not go to the job for any reason and they get disqualified later, then the students of the waiting list should get jobs in those places. Let us tell you that these students have been pleading with the government about their demands in azad Maidan since 29 december 2024. In this matter, the students also met the senior officials of BMC several times, but they got nothing other than assurances. Out of these students who came from different districts of Maharashtra, Nitin Barbude told that according to the rule, priority is given to the students of the waiting list.
The exam was held in january 2023
He said, however, we did not even know that our name was in the waiting list. We have read in the newspapers that in the fire brigade department, those students who did not get the job for some reason despite being in the confirmed list, instead of giving jobs to the students of the waiting list, corruption is being done by taking money. In january 2023, the exam was held for 910 posts, in which about 42,534 students appeared for the exam.
At the same time, after the whole process, a waiting list was made in which there were names of 277 students, but during the further process, due to some reason or the other, 137 students did not get the job, their place remained vacant. In such a situation, according to the rules, the students of the waiting list have to be given jobs in those places.
Student Shubham Bhamare said, we are not asking for any favour from the government, we have reached this level by clearing all the exams, so just like in 2015-16, only the students from the waiting list were given jobs in the vacant positions, similarly this time also we should get our rights.
No action taken even after Eknath Shinde's instructions
He said, when Eknath Shinde was the Chief Minister, we met him, after which he instructed the concerned department to investigate the claims of the students and take appropriate action. But even after so many days, no action was taken on his instructions. The exam held in 2015 was conducted for 772 vacant posts. At that time, there were 101 names in the waiting list. When the process moved forward, many students from the confirmed list did not join the job, in whose place students from the waiting list were given jobs.
